This has been a year of changes. From how our 4-H Programs meet, to how we celebrate achievements, even holidays. I’ve missed our 4-H Camps, our tournaments, and the State Fair. While none of these events have been in person, we are still connecting, celebrating, and breaking out our creative selves.

Autumn is my favorite season, crisp air, the holidays, and the State Fair, which I view as a sort of holiday. I missed a lot of things about the State Fair, but I didn’t miss the hay bale decorating contest. We did a lot of hay bale decorating at our office, and we got to be inspired by several wonderfully creative hay bales. Our winners will be announced next week. But here are the ones we decorated at our office.

We also had a great time without virtual Book Explorers. If you haven’t heard about our 4-H Book Explorers program, it’s an awesome journey around the world one book at a time. In the past we’ve met at our county library, and explored Poland, Austria, Cambodia, Nigeria, England, and many others. Our first Book Explorers this fall took us to Spain where we learned about Barcelona, we learned about the Iberian peninsula, traditional Catalan food, and dance. We also made some of our own mosaic art, after being inspired by the work of

Our next journey will take us to Denmark. We are going to read a book, taste some food, create art, but we will also learn some holiday traditions from our Danish friends. Join us for an awesome holiday adventure.

While Book Explorers is currently a virtual program, all participants will receive a kit with everything they need to fully participate in all of our activities. Book Explorers Denmark will be on December 16, 2020, at 4 p.m. Registration is open. Once you have registered you will have access to the web portal for this session as well as resources from past book explorers for you to explore. Once you are registered you will be given a pick-up date for your book explorers kit. Each kit will have everything you need to complete the craft, geography game, and snack.

If you are interested in participating or learning more about any of these programs, follow us on social media for real-time updates or give our office a call 252-745-4121. To register for these or any 4-H program, check out our website. All registrations are online. Book Explorers will be heading to Denmark in December. We will also have a series of fall science workshops, stay tuned for a complete fall schedule, and learn about our COVID-19 contingency plans to ensure that even if we can’t be together we will be able to continue our workshops. We will ensure that registered participants are able to complete our adventures and challenges even in their own homes. If you are interested in our Spring Fun Programs or want to learn more about the 4-H Program in Pamlico County contact Kait Neeland at 252-745-4121, or kait_neeland@ncsu.edu, or check us out online. Don’t FORGET to REGISTER, spaces will fill up!
