According to Jack, the best camera is usually the one you happen to have with you. While good gear is a pleasure to use, it isn’t absolutely necessary for capturing compelling images. Knowledge and a bit of planning go a long way.

Jack and his wife Mary Scott have lived in the Brevard area since 2003. Retired from the corporate world of computer software, Jack is self-taught through courses in photography and darkroom techniques during college and has lifelong experience with film, print, and digital imaging. He particularly enjoys landscape, architecture, and travel photography. He is actively involved in the Land of Waterfalls Camera Club here in Brevard and enjoys sharing his images and photographic experience with others.

Jack currently exhibits his images at Number 7 Arts gallery where he has been a member since 2016, and serves on the board of the Transylvania Community Arts Council. Other experiences include being a special events photographer for the Brevard Music Center, photographing the Assault on the Carolinas and other festive events around town, and doing talks and coaching others on the art and craft of photography.

His work has been published in Our State North Carolina magazine, Blue Ridge Country magazine, and The Blue Ridge Travel Guide. His work has been exhibited at the Transylvania Community Arts Council and the Hollingsworth Building in Brevard, the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts at Appalachian State in Boone, and at The Biltmore in Asheville.
