As generations of members have learned through the 4-H pledge, putting your "hands to larger service" is a defining part of what it means to be a 4-H'er. Living out that commitment through service has long been a tradition of North Carolina 4-H Congress.
Counties who are registered to attend Congress are invited to bring donation items to support service projects as part of this year's Hands to Service activities.
To help coordinate donations and ensure a variety of needed items are collected, each district has been assigned specific items to bring to Congress registration on Monday, July 20.
Please note: All food items must be individually wrapped and single-serving.
Counties are encouraged to work together to collect items prior to Congress, and individual delegates are also welcome to contribute. Every donation makes a difference, and counties that are able to bring a box or collection of items can help make an even greater impact.
For clarification on a few items:
- Nuts: Individually packaged nut products such as peanuts, almonds, trail mix, etc. (keep items in original packaging with ingredient information visible)
- Dried fruit: Individually packaged dried fruit products such as raisins, cranberries, mangos, etc.
- Paper lunch bags: Empty brown paper SOS bags (bags only)
- Sweet snacks: Individually packaged treats such as Rice Krispies Treats, cookies, fruit snacks, etc.
- Old T-shirts & old socks: These items will be repurposed, so they do not need to be new or in perfect condition (clean items with minor wear are welcome)
- Hydration packets: Single-serving drink mix packets such as Liquid I.V., Propel, Gatorade, etc.
The examples are provided for reference only. Other brands and varieties are welcome, provided they meet the guidelines outlined above.
