There are three 4-H camps throughout the state. For more than 80 years, North Carolina 4-H camping has taught youth life skills each year to more than 11,000 youth from across the state.

4-H camp is a great way for youth to meet new friends and try new experiences in a traditional summer camp setting. While at camp, youth participate in a variety of activities including: archery, canoeing, challenge courses, hiking, horseback riding (at certain locations), and arts & crafts.

Each camp is accredited by the American Camp Association each camp center and is highly ranked for safety, educational and youth benefit statuses. Camps are fully staffed with a Center Director, Program Directors, and Counselors along with Facility Maintenance Supervisors, and Food Service Supervisors who are all trained to ensure your child has a wonderful and safe experience.

Camp Facts

  • You do not have to be a 4-H member to attend camp
  • Youth from Transylvania county can attend camp as a group. This group usually attends Betsy-Jeff Penn for six days during the summer as part of a multi-county cluster. Chaperones and transportation are provided. Dates vary.
  • Traditional camp age is 8-14 but may vary depending on availability and location.
  • Tuition for camp varies but there are often scholarships available to help cover all or part of the costs. Please reach out to Sarah at seholden@ncsu.edu or 828-884-3109 for more information.
