Duration: This is a seasonal position beginning Aug. 22, 2022 and ending around Nov. 18, 2022. Staff with interest will have an opportunity to continue to work again during spring and summer programs.
Compensation: $425/week with a private room in the staff house, wireless internet and laundry facility. Meals when working are provided. Mostly 5 day work weeks with some weekend work required.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, Education, Parks and Rec or other related fields. Experience working with children may take the place of college credits. Individuals must have a commitment to the environment, a love for working with kids, an interest in experiential education, and a ton of patience. Creativity, enthusiasm, and a love for hard work in a team atmosphere are also crucial. Internships are also available.
Duties Performed: 1) Facilitate group initiatives, team challenge course, and high ropes elements with middle and high school students, as well as some adult groups in the Soaring Through Spaces program. Includes GriGri belay on the high ropes course. Instructors are responsible for the overall safety of their groups on the high ropes course. A required training is provided. 2) Provide instruction for nearly 20 programs in environmental science and cultural history to elementary school students in the Environmental Education program. Topics include aquatic ecology, forestry, predator/prey relationships, wildlife habitats, pioneer living history, canoeing and more. 3) Provide leadership for GPS-based, outdoor science geocaching explorations with middle school students in Project O.R.I.E.N.T. 4) Enhance the mental, physical, and social development of the students participating in the program by being a positive role model. 5) Participate in a two-week paid staff training that prepares staff in content knowledge, program delivery, and safety procedures. Training is Aug. 22 – Sept. 2, 2022. 6) Assist in the day to day upkeep of all program supplies and program areas. 7) Instructors oversee all day and evening programs but NO overnight student supervisory duties are required during spring and fall.
