be a hunger hero. Register and submit your paper by March 13.

Registration + Essay Due March 13 (student registration | mentor registration)

The Department of Crop and Soil Sciences is delighted to invite high school youth to participate in the North Carolina Youth Institute. This program is part of the Global Youth Institute and World Food Prize and provides a platform for students to research and give recommendations to solve key global challenges that range from food insecurity, access to potable water, poverty, human rights, and more.

To participate, students research a global issue and write a 2-3 page paper under the supervision of a teacher/mentor (using these downloadable guidelines). Each teacher/mentor must register their student delegate nominee(s) and submit each student’s research paper online by March 13, 2023. 9-12th grade students in the 2022-2023 school year are eligible to participate. On April 14, students attend the daylong institute at NC State University’s Plant Sciences Building on Centennial Campus and share their research papers among peers and a panel of experts. Hands-on workshops, field trips, keynotes, and career development will round out the event. There is no registration cost to participate in the Institute and lunch will be provided, however, both student and teacher/mentor participants must organize their own transportation to and from the event in Raleigh, NC. Please share this event widely, including this flier. For more information on how to participate in the North Carolina Youth Institute, contact the North Carolina State Coordinator Liz Driscoll at liz_driscoll@ncsu.edu | 919.886.3424
