Collapse ▲4-H Youth Compete in East and West Regional Dinah Gore 4-H Healthy Food Challenge
4-H members from across the region recently showcased their presentation skills, culinary skills, and nutrition knowledge in the East and West Regional Dinah Gore 4-H Healthy Food Challenge. This exciting competition put young chefs to the test as they worked in teams to create nutritious dishes using a predetermined ingredient, food category, and a locally sourced pantry.
The Dinah Gore 4-H Healthy Food Challenge is designed to encourage youth to explore healthy eating, practice teamwork, and develop their cooking abilities. Teams of three to four 4-H members had just 40 minutes to plan, prepare, and present their dish to a panel of judges. In addition to cooking, participants did a 4-H presentation by demonstrating their understanding of nutrition by explaining the health benefits, recipe, and essential nutrients provided by their dishes.
The top two teams in the 8-10 and 11-13 age categories and the top three teams in the 14-18 category will move on to compete for the State Championship on May 17 during the Got to Be NC Festival.
Thank you to all the 4-H members, volunteers, and supporters who made this event a success. Your dedication to promoting healthy eating and youth development is truly inspiring!
