Blog - Tips & Tricks for Summer Camp 2023

(Updated: Oct. 26, 2022, 4:50 a.m.)

Camping with North Carolina 4-H Camps in summer 2023 will be the best week of your child's summer! So we want to take a moment now to give parents and guardians some insider pro-tips to make the most of your child's summer camp experience in 2023.

Tip #1 - We have 3 AMAZING camps to choose from! Our camps are located in beautiful settings from the coast to the Piedmont and the Sandhills. All three of our camps are American Camp Association accredited, adhering to the highest standards for safety, program and facility quality. Find out why that matters. Check out all of our resources for parents to learn more about our camps and decide which camp is the right fit for your family.

Tip #2 - Sign up with your local county 4-H Agent to get the best deal. Our camps start taking online registration for summer 2023 starting on November 11 with the traditional 6-day, 5-night week of overnight camp at a rate of $650/week of camp. If you register through your county's 4-H Agent, you can get the same week of camp for $525! Find your Agent's contact information here by clicking on your county of residence. No 4-H Agent in your county? Contact the County Extension Director instead, or reach out to a neighboring county's 4-H Agent.

Tip #3 - Camp makes a fantastic holiday gift! Millstone 4-H Camp runs a great holiday feature - register online by December 12 and you will receive a package to put under the tree with special Millstone swag. Registration opens on November 11.

Tip #4 - We believe all children should have the opportunity to go to camp. We offer an unbeatable camp experience for the price, but we understand that $650 for a week of camp is still not affordable for many families. That's why we provide scholarships for hundreds of youth to attend camp with us every year. The best way to receive a scholarship for camp is to sign up with your local county 4-H Agent.

Tip #5 - We are unique from other summer camps. We send a caring adult to camp with your child. In most cases, your county's 4-H Agent will attend camp with your child. If it's not the Agent, it's another qualified youth development professional employed by NC 4-H. They travel to and from camp with your child and serve as a caring adult on-site during the week to help them have the best experience possible.
