What do the winners receive as awards?

For the Cloverbud, Junior, and Senior Age Divisions, ribbons will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Places and Honorable Mention. Winning entries will be displayed on the NC 4-H Photography Contest Webpage, a showcase premiere on the North Carolina 4-H Facebook site during National 4-H Week, and will be on display during the NC State Fair as part of the NC 4-H Exhibit in October. The winning pictures and ribbons will then be returned to their 4-H county offices.

For the Adult Age Division, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, as well as Honorable Mention “bragging rights,” will be announced. Winning photographs will be displayed at the State 4-H Office for the contest year, then sent to the participant’s county 4-H Office.

Will the winners be announced in any newspapers?

This is up to the discretion of the individual or county 4-H professional to contact their local newspapers about any awards received in this contest.

Is there a “Best of Show” winner?

No, “Best of Show” winners are designated as such when the judges feel that a particular 1st place photo is deserving of extra recognition. It is a great honor for the photographer and a real treat for the judges when we discover such an image!

Will participants receive a written critique of their entries?

Since the judges are asked to review a vast number of photo entries, they are not required to provide written critiques for each entry. We received over 150 entries last year, and we simply don’t have the staff to critique each one individually. But we will try to honor all requests for feedback.

North Carolina 4-H reserves the right to use any of the photographs received for educational purposes and will give the photographer credit.
