North Carolina 4-H Volunteer Leaders' Association
Any adult 19 and over who is registered, trained, 4-H Online approved, and background checked is automatically a member of the NC 4-H Volunteer Leaders' Association (NC4-HVLA). There are no dues for this association, so we encourage you to get active within your county, district, and state volunteer leaders' associations!
Volunteers are the key to our success in the North Carolina 4-H program. Whether you’re interested in becoming a club leader or have a few hours to invest, we have challenging and fun roles for adults and teens who want to make a difference.
Each county manages the process locally to help volunteers find the role that best fits their interests and schedules.

Association Leadership
State 4-H VLA officers are elected volunteers who help guide the work of the Association and represent volunteers across the state. District 4-H VLAs and their officers also support volunteers at the regional level by sharing information, encouraging involvement, and helping coordinate activities and trainings that strengthen local 4-H programs and volunteer engagement.
Volunteer Leader Recognition
The NC4-HVLA Recognition Program honors volunteers whose dedication and service strengthen 4-H programs across the state. Through nominations submitted by youth, families, and 4-H staff, volunteers are recognized for the many ways they support positive youth development, including mentoring members, assisting other volunteers, providing leadership, and advocating for 4-H in their communities.
