Beyond Ready: What Does It Mean?

Beyond Ready is a national 4-H initiative focused on preparing young people for college, careers and life, and building a Ready Generation equipped for a world of change.

We can't prepare young people for every challenge they will face or predict exactly what their futures will look like. But we can help them develop the skills to navigate whatever comes their way.

4-H gives youth opportunities to learn, try, fail, adapt, and try again. Along the way, they discover what they are capable of and develop skills that prepare them for the classroom, the workforce, their communities, and life.

Being Beyond Ready means more than being prepared for the next step. It means having the confidence and skills to take that step and keep moving forward when the path changes.

In North Carolina, our Beyond Ready focus centers on three skills that help young people navigate an ever-changing world.

Finding Your Voice

Through the 4-H Presentation Program, young people explore topics that matter to them, organize their ideas and share what they've learned with others. Along the way, they strengthen their communication skills, think critically and build the confidence to stand up and be heard.

Preparing for Opportunities

Through AIRE (Application, Interview, Resume and Essay), teens learn how to communicate their experiences, reflect on their accomplishments and confidently present themselves to others. The process helps youth practice skills they can carry into future applications, interviews, college and careers, while also providing opportunities to earn trips to national 4-H leadership experiences.

Ready for What's Next

The skills young people build through 4-H don't end when their time as a member does. 4-H Senior Signing celebrates graduating members as they take what they've learned and carry it forward into college, careers and life.
