North Carolina 4-H Volunteer Leaders' Association
Adults (ages 19+) who are registered, trained, 4-H Online approved, and background checked are automatically a member of the NC 4-H Volunteer Leaders' Association (NC4-HVLA). There are no dues for this association, so we encourage you to get active within your county, district, and state volunteer leaders' associations!
Volunteers are the key to our success in the North Carolina 4-H program. Whether you’re interested in becoming a club leader or have a few hours to invest, we have challenging and fun roles for adults and teens who want to make a difference.
Each county manages the process locally to help volunteers find the role that best fits their interests and schedules. Contact your local 4-H agent to get started!

Association Leadership
VLA officers are elected volunteers who help guide the work of the Association and represent volunteers at the state and district levels. They support volunteer engagement by sharing information, encouraging involvement, and helping coordinate activities, trainings, and initiatives that strengthen local 4-H programs and volunteer leadership across North Carolina.
Awards and Recognition
The NC4-HVLA offers recognition and award opportunities that honor volunteers and other adults whose dedication and service strengthen 4-H across the state. Through nominations submitted by youth, families, and 4-H professionals, volunteers are recognized for the many ways they support positive youth development, including mentoring members, assisting other volunteers, providing leadership and advocating for 4-H in their communities.
Volunteer Leaders' Conference
The NC 4-H Volunteer Leaders’ Conference is an annual gathering where 4-H volunteers from across North Carolina and beyond come together for workshops, training, and networking. Participants share ideas, learn new ways to support local programs, and take part in the election and installation of the NC4-HVLA officers.
